Arkansas District & City Court Clerks Association

November, 2005

From the President

Hello everyone,

Hello and welcome to all of you. I hope you are enjoying this trip to Fayetteville, the agenda for today is the same one that was presented to the 2nd and 4th District in February of this year, and we really received a lot of great information from some really good speakers during the February session and had a lot of fun too. So, I know we will be presented with some good information today and have a good time while we are at it.

As some of you may not be aware, the certification computer has been down due to a broken part, but we have purchased a new one and I have finally been able to input the hours from our May and August meetings. This should be up-to-date on the website if you wish to check your certification hours. The website is www.arkansascourtnet.com, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or Vickie Asher (Hot Springs) and we will be happy to try and assist you.

Again, WELCOME! And hope you have a great session.

From your Editor

I was not at the last meeting since it was for Chief Clerks only, so I did not get anything for the spotlight. If anyone has anything for the next newsletter, such as your plans for the coming New Year, any new Grand Kids, or planning new trips for the Holidays, we want to hear about it. I will not be attending this meeting either. I shall miss you all, but I am looking forward to seeing you in February.

SPOTLIGHT

This is from the “Bobbi Sox Queen” Theresa Wilson. HA. I am
working at the Administrative Office of the Courts now.
Can you believe that?  I am going to be a trainer for the
automated court program.  Official title is Court Functional
Specialist.  Oh, I finally get to Little Rock and they have
closed Bobbi sox down.  Don't know details on that yet.
I just wanted you to put something in the newsletter about
Treva.

Treva Lambert has replaced Theresa Wilson as District
Clerk in Mt. Ida, Montgomery County, AR.  Theresa is working
for the AOC now. Treva had worked as the Deputy Clerk for Mt.
Ida for approx. 2 years.  She has been married to Mervin Lambert
for 27 years.  They will celebrate there 28 year anniversary in
January 06.  They have 2 sons, Scott and Morgan. She enjoys
reading and hunting. She especially likes hunting for deer and
bear. CONGRATS to Treva from Theresa and all of us as well.

HOW MANY OF THE FOLLOWING EXPRESSIONS HAVE YOU HEARD YOUR PARENTS OR GRANDPARENTS USE IN THEIR EVERYDAY CONVERSATION?

TWO WRONGS DON’T MAKE A RIGHT…IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT PROBABLY IS…MAKE HAY WHILE THE SUN SHINES…ROUGH AS A COB…YOU’VE GOT A HARD ROW TO HOE…WE’RE IN THE SHORT ROWS…OH, I’M FAIR TO MIDDLIN…WE ARE IN HIGH COTTON…HE’S TOUGHER THAN WELL ROPE…JUST LIKE TWO PEAS IN A POD…DON’T PUT ALL YOUR EGGS IN ONE BASKET…IT’S RAINING CATS AND DOGS…IF IT RAINS AT NIGHT IN JULY, IT WILL BE A TOAD STRANGLER…ONE WEATHER EXTREME IS USUALLY FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER…A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS…IF IT AIN’T BROKE, DON’T FIX IT…THERE’S NO SENSE CLOSING THE BARN DOOR AFTER THE COWS ARE ALREADY OUT…YOU’RE BARKING UP THE WRONG TREE…THAT DOG WON’T HUNT…BUSY AS A BEE…STUBBORN AS A MULE… LOOSE AS A GOOSE…CRAZY AS A LOON…RUNNING LIKE A DEER…RUNNING AROUND LIKE A CHICKEN WITH ITS HEAD CUT OFF…PRANCING AROUND LIKE A BANTY ROOSTER…SAVE YOUR MONEY FOR A RAINY DAY…HASTE MAKES WASTE…A PENNY SAVED IS A PENNY EARNED…IF YOU TAKE CARE OF THE PENNIES, THE DOLLARS WILL TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES…DON’T MARRY THE ONE YOU CAN LIVE WITH, MARRY THE ONE YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT.

NEVER UNDERESTIMATE A WOMAN

A couple’s mower was broken and wouldn’t run. The wife kept hinting to her husband that he should get it fixed, but somehow the message never sunk in.

Finally she thought of a clever way to make her point. When her husband arrived home one day, he found her seated in the tall grass, busily snipping away with a tiny pair of sewing scissors. He watched silently for a short time and then went into the house.

He was gone only a few moments. When he returned, he handed her a toothbrush. “When you finish cutting the grass,” he said, “you might as well sweep the sidewalks.”

The doctors say he will probably walk again but will always limp.

QWINKEY DINK

Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846. John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946. Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860. John F. Kennedy was elected president in 1960. Both were particularly concerned with civil rights. Both wives lost their children while living in the White House. Both Presidents were shot on a Friday. Both Presidents were shot in the head. Now it gets really weird. Lincoln’s secretary was named Kennedy. Kennedy’s secretary was named Lincoln. Southerners named Johnson succeeded both. Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808. Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908. John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839. Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939. Both assassins were known by their three names. Both names are composed of fifteen letters. Now hang on to your seat. Lincoln was shot at the theatre named “Ford.” Kennedy was shot in a car called “Lincoln” made by “Ford.” Lincoln was shot in a theatre and his assassin ran and hid in a warehouse. Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and his assassin ran and hid in a theatre. Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.

Hey this is one history lesson people don’t mind reading. Hope you enjoyed it.

KID’S INSTRUCTIONS ON LIFE

Wear a hat when feeding seagulls…Sleep in your clothes so you’ll be dressed in the morning…Never ask for anything that costs more than $5.00 when your parents are doing taxes…Never bug a pregnant mom…Don’t ever be too full for dessert…When your dad is mad and asks you, “Do I look stupid?’ don’t’ answer him…Never tell your mom her diet’s not working…Don’t pick on your sister when she’s holding a baseball bat…Never spit when on a roller coaster…Never do pranks at a police station…Stay away from prunes…Forget the cake, go for the icing…Remember the two places you are always welcome—church and Grandma’s house…When you want something expensive, ask your grandparents.

PARTING SHOTS

It’s a funny thing about our nation. July 4 is its birthday,

but April 15 is when it collects the presents…

If you really want to eat a good meal outdoors

on the Fourth of July, be a mosquito…

Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old,

he will not depart from it…

Age doesn’t always bring wisdom.

Sometimes it comes alone…

Gotta love it when the government talks about “revenue sharing,”

it sounds so dignified, so important. Isn’t that what a mugger does?...

Like so may other dreams

Time has a way of slipping through our fingers…

The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention…

Pride makes us do things well.

But it is love that makes us do them to perfection…

Don’t’ let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do…
