Arkansas District & City Court Clerks Association

September 2002

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone for your support and many offers of help as I serve as your president this year. There are many important and exciting issues facing us. We, as an organization, have the strength and the voice to make a difference for our future. So, let's stick to it with steady tenacity.

Many of you may be aware that my husband, Jim, was diagnosed with esophageal cancer the week after the annual meeting in hot springs. I'm very happy and thankful to repol1 his subsequent surgery was a miraculous success. Esophageal Cancer is one of the most difficult to treat. Jim's was in the earliest stages and has an excellent prognosis. He had some additional setbacks after surgery, so I was out of the office for June and July. However, he is doing great now so I am back at work full time. Thanks for your many thoughts, prayers, and offers of help. You are greatly appreciated.

I want to express my deep appreciation to the staff from my coul1 in Nol1h Little Rock. If you need a lesson in last minute delegation of duties, just ask anyone in our coul1 and they can give you the lowdown! The six ladies in our coul1 who worked so diligently, without complaint, without additional salary, under stress and pressure, are nothing shol1 of angels to me. I was able to be with my husband when he needed me the most and not worry about my job. So, Margie, Sonja, Shauna, Vickie, Kathy and Shannon -THANKS! THANKS! THANKS!

One last thing, check out the new item in this newsletter. It's called "JUST THOUGHT YOU'D WANT TO KNOW". It will contain pertinent information I

need to update you on during this year .

LET'S HAVE A GREAT YEAR! ! !

Betty’s Corner

This is my first attempt as Editor of the Newsletter and I am about as nervous as an old maid with a mouse in her bustle, but I will try my best.

How about some helpful hints?

  • .:. Pam Cooking Spray: will dry up fingernail polish.
  • .:. Cool Whip: will condition your hair in 15 minutes.
  • .:. Shiny hair: Use brewed Lipton tea.
  • .:. Minor burn: Colgate or Crest toothpaste.
  • .:. Burn your tongue? Put sugar on it.
  • .:. Arthritis? WD-40: Spray and rub in, kills insect bites too.
  • .:. Chigger bite: Preparation H .:. Paper cut: Crazy glue.
  • .:. Fungus on toe or fingernails: Vicks Vapor Rub, works but slowly.
  • .:. Bee stings: Meat tenderizer.

Ponder this:

Right and wrong, are not absolutes, they are merely opinions. They are always directly dependent upon something outside of themselves, such as the particular time, the place, the particular people involved, and WHO happens to be doing the judging.

Definition of a precise moment: A fragment of time, in conjunction with a fragment of space, creates the precise moment and this precise moment can be either exotic or catastrophic.

News from the Certification Committee

The Certification Committee met in July to plan the programs for next year. We have some excellent topics for the upcoming sessions and we hope that all of you will attend as many sessions as possible. The computer, which contains the Certification files, is still in Little Rock with Holly. She and I have tried to schedule a time for her to turn this computer over to me and we haven't had much success corresponding our schedules. However, we have scheduled to meet the day before our September meeting and Holly will bring me up to speed on the Certification files and records. If anyone has any questions about the hours, please give me about a week after the meeting and check with me then. If I don't have an immediate answer, I promise to get back to you as soon as I find out. I apologize for the delay, but I will get it all sorted out if you will be patient with me. I would also like to express my gratitude to all the Certification Committee members for the hard work they put into our meeting in July. It is a pleasure working with you guys and I look forward to working with you again in the future.

Dena Titsworth, Chairman of the Certification Committee
