Welcome to Hot Springs and our May Certification Program!

It has been a fast paced and eventful two years as your president.  I thank you for the opportunity to serve and hope you will continue to give our new president the encouragement and support that you extended to me.

I would like to thank Paula Caudle for her work on the Clerk of the Year Committee.  Paula and her committee have fine-tuned the selection process and thoughtfully considered each nomination.  Thank you, Paula, for all your hard work.

I also extend my thanks to Valerie Buster for her service to the association as the Constitution and Bylaws Chairman.  Val was drafted for this position, but cheerfully served.  Thanks, Val, for your service.

My thanks to Pat Harris for her work on the Clerk Connections Committee and to Vickie Maxwell and Linda Clark for Co-Chairing the Legislative Committee.  Ladies, we could not have done it without you.  Thanks.

Our certification Committee is losing two long-serving members, Regina Yates Beeson and Sandy Easley.  These ladies have made invaluable contributions to your education programs.  Thanks so much for your years of dedicated service.

As you know, this will be Marla Wallace’s last newsletter and I want to thank her for supplying this insight to the members of our association.  Well done, Marla, and best wishes as you pursue your degree.

Judy Carlisle and the nominating committee worked fast and furious to compile a roster of candidates for our consideration.  Judy did an outstanding job and I extend my heartfelt thanks to you.

Our new president will be looking for individuals to replace various positions on the many committees and if you feel that you would like to serve, please contact the incoming president.

Have a great summer and we will see you again in the fall.

Geneva Vance

President

CERTIFICATION COMMITTEE

The Certification Committee would like to congratulate the clerks who will be receiving their Certification at the Awards Luncheon on Friday, May 17, 2002.  Please plan to attend this luncheon.  You have worked hard to achieve this award and we are proud that you have accomplished this honor.  You should display it proudly in your office.

The education program for this meeting includes sessions on bonds, change, separation of powers, stress management, drug treatment, professionalism and FOI.  Also there will be a joint session with the judges on communication.  Please plan to attend all sessions; we feel they will be very beneficial to you.

Please fill out the comments and evaluations forms for this program; they are very helpful to this committee.

Sandy Easley

Certification Chairperson

THANK YOU!

Thanks to everyone who has given me articles, news, etc. for our newsletter.  It’s been a joy doing this newsletter, but with my hectic schedule of working three jobs and going to college part-time, something had to go.  I’m sad that it had to be this newsletter, but everyone I’ve talked to is very understanding of the situation.  Whoever is the new newsletter editor – please feel free to contact me anytime and I’ll try to help you as much as possible.

Fortunately, I will still try to attend all the certification meetings that I can.  This organization is very supportive and the meetings are very worthwhile.  I can’t imagine anyone not wanting to be part of this organization!

I AM THANKFUL

Ø      For the husband who complains when his dinner is not on time, because he is home with me, not with someone else.

Ø      For the teenager who is complaining about doing dishes, because that means she is at home, not on the streets.

Ø      For the taxes that I pay, because it means that I am employed.

Ø      For the mess to clean up after a party, because it means that I have been surrounded by friends.

Ø      For the clothes that fit a little too snug, because it means I have enough to eat.

Ø      For my shadow that watches me work, because it means I am out in the sunshine.

Ø      For a lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning, and gutters that need fixing, because it means I have a home.

Ø      For all the complaining I hear about the government, because it means that we have freedom of speech.

Ø      For the parking spot I find at the far end of the parking lot, because it means I am capable of walking and that I have been blessed with transportation.

Ø      For the lady behind me in church that sings off key, because it means that I can hear.

Ø      For the pile of laundry and ironing, because it means I have clothes to wear.

Ø      For weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day, because it means that I have been capable of working hard.

Ø      For the alarm that goes off in the early morning hours, because it means that I am alive.
